Weight Loss surgery could boost IVF success

Women who are overweight are more likely to suffer from fertility problems when trying to conceive naturally and are at increased risk of miscarriage after IVF treatment.  Women with a BMI of 25+ had an increased risk of miscarriage by 33% according to the American Pregnancy Association. Obese women suffer more fertility problems than women with a healthy BMI as being overweight causes hormonal imbalances which affects estrogen production and fertility. Studies shown to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine have shown that reducing BMI through weight loss surgery can have a significant impact at improving fertility. Women who loose weight are more likely to regain normal hormone production allowing IVF to add stimulation to hormones produced in the ovaries and ensure egg propduction and successful embryo implantation. Women are advised to wait at least 6 months following bariatric procedures before beginning infertility treatment.
